Event description

Description

Our next AI in the 6ix meetup features a panel discussion about designing AI products. While many of the ethnographic principles of human-centred design hold for AI, machine learning algorithms also pose new questions. With many AI products, user are part of the creation, be it by labeling data sets, training a classifier, or providing feedback to optimize future performance; designers must consider users as co-creators and not just end users, adapting interfaces to ask the right questions and collect the right data. Designers can help scientists visualize complex data sets to influence algorithmic output. Algorithms output probabilities and distributions, and designers must find ways to represent these probabilities as simple solutions to problems, or explore playful means to help users grapple with statistics. Finally, AI raises ethical questions around fairness and bias that designers must take into account to ensure products serve sustainable, long-term interests. Join us as we grapple with these questions and more! Our panelists are:

  • Masha Krol, Experience Designer at Element AI.
  • David Madras, Researcher at Vector Institute.
  • Dawson Guilbeault, Design Director at Scotia Digital Factory.
  • Lindsay Ellerby, Senior Design Director at Normative.

Please do pass on this invite to anyone in the Toronto community interested in applied machine learning. We look forward to seeing you March 14!

Please RSVP on eventbrite - and send us questions to info@integrate.ai . We'll see you soon!
