Description

Megan Green

Mold making, Casting Materials and Woodworking

Open to all residents ages 16 and older

This week-long class will instruct participants on the most common methods and materials for making molds. Demonstration and practice may utilize silicone caulking, latex and alginate molds, casting plaster, and wax. Participants will also be making small wooden objects with electric and hand carving tools and learn about different types of wood for woodworking, as well as basic tool use. Participants will learn different ways of combining cast and wooden objects, and some of the limits of different casting materials. The class will culminate in the creation of an object that combines a cast sculpture and a wooden carved/found object.

Megan Green was born in Newfoundland, but moved with the migration to Fort McMurray in the mid 1990s, where she spent her formative years. After attending Keyano College, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta in 2011 and completed her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at the University of Waterloo in 2014. During her MFA Megan completed a Keith and Win Shantz Summer Internship in London UK with artist Claire Morgan.

She was included in Art Mur’s 2014 Fresh Paint New Construction in Montreal and the 2017 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art. In 2016 Megan was an artist at the Banff Centre in the Banff Research in Culture (BRiC) On Energy residency for artists and academics. Her research and artwork from this residency was presented at the Petrocultures 2016 conference at Memorial University of Newfoundland, and at the University of Edinburgh’s Postcards from the Anthropocene symposium exhibition.

Megan will be an artist in residence at the Klondike Institute for Arts and Culture in the spring of 2018. Her work will be included in a group exhibition at Calgary's Lougheed House, The Sandstone City, in the summer of 2018, and will be exhibited at the Tromsø Museum in Norway for Universitet i Tromsø – Arctic University of Norway's Resisting Extractivism in Border Zones conference in October 2018. She is currently based in Toronto, and works as a scenic artist in film and television.
