Seven Valleys Towards Reconciliation - with Louise Profeit-LeBlanc

A community weekend full of learning and inspiration for everyone.

Louise Profeit-LeBlanc, Baha'i storyteller, artist and teacher, will take us through a journey of discovery in sharing the Seven Grandfather teachings from Indigenous wisdom and tradition that will offer a foundation and a link to Baha'u'llah's metaphors of The Seven Valleys. This will lay the groundwork for us to explore The Seven Valleys as our framework in moving forward with the teachings of today to continue guiding our journey.

As Baha'is, so many of us are reflecting on the phrase "truth and reconciliation" as we long for the pain of our Indigenous sisters and brothers to be healed. We may struggle to find ways to embrace each and every soul in an expanding circle of love in hopes of walking together on a journey of recovery, found capacities and strengthened resilience. How do we begin to apply what we understand to be true based on our knowledge of Baha'i principles to open our hearts and minds to be part of this journey, in true oneness, as we begin to understand, on deeper levels over time, the history of Indigenous peoples?

During this Winter School, Saturday will be spent with a morning session for adults and an afternoon session for youth. On Sunday, both adults and youth will be brought together to appreciate working together and learning from and with each other.

As we gain greater cultural understanding and the certain interconnection between ourselves as all one people, we can set our own stage for how to enact the coming together of all peoples with love and unity. This can and will lead to the lifting up of the Creator's words from the pages of books and the melodies of songs, and transform what we know to be true into abiding and steadfast action as we learn to walk together into a hopeful, illumined and co-created future.

Louise served our National Spiritual Assembly and our Auxiliary Board for many years, and is a traditional knowledge keeper and member of the Yukon's Nacho Nyak Dan First Nation.

Space is very limited, so book early!

Soleil's Invitation to Families

This year, to assist families to attend Winter School, we are offering Child and Junior Youth registration on a pay-what-you-can basis. We invite the community to support this initiative, to make this experience of spiritual education accessible to the next generation, by donating to the Soleil Sponsorship Fund. This can be done by using the donation button on this site, or by donating to the Council, earmarking "Winter School".

FAQ:

How do I donate to the Soleil Sponsorship Fund? We have a donation option on the ticketing page for this event. Donations can also be made directly to the Alberta Baha'i Council, earmarked "Soleil". You can also donate by cash or cheque in person at the school.

Do I need to print out my ticket? No, your registration will be stored on our online system and we will have your name on our list when you arrive at the school. Just identify yourself to receive your registration package.

Can I attend for only part of the weekend? Yes, but at this point you must still pay the full fee. Space is very limited and if we take partial registrations this may take a place from someone who wants to attend the whole weekend. If there are spaces remaining in the final week before the school, we may open up some 1-day passes.

Can I stay somewhere else? Yes, there are lots of good hotels within a very short drive of the Bennett Centre, in downtown Edmonton and elsewhere. We have not arranged any group discounts at particular hotels.

Can I bring my own food? The Bennett Centre does not allow any outside food on site. You may leave the centre at meal times to eat, but registration includes the cost of meals for all guests.

I can't afford the fees. Can I have a discount? Adult registration costs are fixed, though Junior Youth and Children may attend for what they can afford to pay. If you require further assistance, please contact your Local Spiritual Assembly.

Can I help with the programming? Yes! If you have an idea for a workshop or activity, or would like to volunteer to help with the children's programs, please contact registrara@albertabahaischools.org.

Can minors attend without a parent? Yes, as long as they attend with another adult who is responsible for their safety. Please let us know in the 'Notes' section of the registration form.
