Time: 10am-5pm

Learn some of the magical techniques of working with Alcohol Inks.  These beautiful free-flowing colourful inks can create amazing depth and colour layers. With Karen’s system, you will complete 3 paintings that you will be happy to frame, and you will also create 2 hand–painted gratitude cards. Come and experience what freedom and joy ink painting can be.

Alcohol inks are a beautiful introduction into working in an abstract style as they are such a free-flowing medium. You will work with a range of vibrant and translucent colours. Through experimenting and exploring with your choice of colours you’ll learn how to create depth and balance within the composition.

We begin with a brief demo and discussion of various techniques. Participants will experiment and create their own masterpiece. If you want to try something new or have never painted before, or even if you already have a favorite medium, sampler classes are a great way to expand your artistic horizons.

Instructor Bio: Karen Biko

Karen Biko is a Calgary artist who’s been exhibiting and selling art in Alberta for years. Inspired at an early age while surrounded by art has always been a huge motivation, and has motivated her to develop her own creative fashion. Formally trained as an Interior Designer, she continues to work with colour, space, and expression in her paintings.

Her abstract style reflects emotion as well as a sense of humor. Always looking for new techniques and interesting aspects to add to paintings, Karen’s work is continually growing. From painting on paper to floppy discs, she can be found looking at everyday objects with a creative thought of “how can I use this?”

As a prolific painter, Karen is always excited to try a new project. She has completed several multi-piece commissions, as well as led Public Community projects and events. She eagerly helps out with fundraising efforts, and has appeared in many juried shows and events.
