Event description

Description

How does the growth of an invasive species affect the balance of native species in an ecosystem? During this course, participants will learn how to identify problems associated with invasive species, simulate the growth of an invasive species in a local ecosystem, and determine methods that can prevent the spread and introduction of these invaders. Appropriate for 6 to 18 years of age.

Course will be taught by UF/IFAS Extension Hernando County Agents, Dr. William Lester and Brittany Scharf, and Hernando County Florida-Friendly Landscaping Coordinator, Lilly Browning.

Cost for each participant is $5.00. No refunds will be given. Course will be capped at 40 youth.

This course is part of the UF/IFAS Extension Hernando County's STEM InvestiGATORS Youth Progam. Participants who accumulate 10 hours (5 courses) by May 31, 2020, will earn a Certificate of Completion and a 4-H specialty topic pin. Participants who complete 18 hours (all 9 courses) by May 31, 2020, will earn a second certificate and a UF bag.
