Event Details

hEr VOLUTION's FUN workshop series continue with workshops designed to empower, educate and feed the curiosity of girl and young women's thirsty minds.

These workshops are intended to spark an interest for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in young women, ages 7-15 years.  Workshops will involve hands-on learning, led by professionals and innovators in their field, with students being motivated to consider STEM as an exciting educational and/or career option. With advanced insights into the fundamentals of STEM-based topics, our goal is for students to feel engaged and to take away valuable resources including access to a network of potential mentors.

Amy Leask Vice President of Enable Education, and author of children’s books, apps, and teacher resources.  A former teacher (and let’s face it, a bit of a nerd), she’s passionate about inspiring a love of ideas in learners of all ages.  Aside from her work in education and training resources, Amy loves creative writing, extreme baking, and playing pretend with her own little thinker.  Her work can be found at EnableEducation.com and KidsThinkAboutIt.com

Enable Education is a curriculum design company that creates media-rich resources for learners from preschool to university and beyond.  They’re passionate supporters of both STEM Education and 21st Century Learning, and strive to find innovative new ways to teach and train.  Enable works with clients like LEGO Education North America, FIRST Robotics and National Instruments, providing everything from print resources, to videos, to web and app development.  Examples of their work and their interests can be found at blog.EnableEducation.com, as well as on Twitter (@EnableEducation).

On August 17 2013, we are honored to have Amy Leask from Enable Education run a workshop for us again. She has been involved with us from the beginning with creating the workshops and running our first workshop which had been a great success. Check out the pictures from the event here

This session will focus on answering questions such as:

  • What is a robot?
  • How do robots work?
  • When were robots invented?

What activities can your child expect?

  • Role playing as robots
  •  Craft projects related to robots
  • Learning about the history of robots
  • Controlling and playing with actual robots!

Donations are welcome and will be used for future programming. Each ticket purchase will receive a copy of Women of Influence magazine to take home. The event best suits young girls ages 7 to 15 and will be held at the Enable Education office in Milton where all the fun is created for kids and kids at heart!
