Description

All Our Father's Relations: Exploring a New Learning Tool for Educators & Facilitators

Join us on May 5 at the UBC Learning Exchange for a film screening of the 2016 award-winning documentary All Our Father's Relations. The screening will be followed by a workshop discussion on how educators and facilitators can use this new learning tool in your own lesson plans.

All Our Father's Relations tells the story of the Grant siblings' journey from Vancouver to China to rediscover their Chinese father's roots and better understand his fractured relationship with their Musqueam mother. Raised primarily in the traditions of the Musqueam people, the Grant family and their story reveals the shared struggles of Chinese migrants and Aboriginal peoples today and in the past.

The workshop will be facilitated by one of the film's producers and will include group discussions on the film's themes, and ideas for how to incorporate these into educational materials.

This event is particularly suited to educators and facilitators looking to include Indigenous and/or Asian migration content in their lesson planning, staff training, or educational programming.

This screening and workshop is part of explorASIAN, a month-long series of events celebrating Asian Heritage Month: https://explorasian.org/category/explorasian/current-festival/
