About this event

Do you love staying in your pajamas? Ally certainly does! She could stay in them all day long...

Put on your pajamas and come join our Family PJ Party to celebrate the official book launch of Ally Loves Pajamas. Meet local author Christina Somers, illustrator Paul Somers, and their daughter Ally, the inspiration for the book. Step inside set designs that capture scenes from the story and view an exclusive live performance of Ally Celebrates Pajamas, a play based on the book. Enjoy a sing-along, story time session, and participate in a colouring pajama design contest for your chance to win prizes!

This BookFest will also include other local Ontario authors showcasing their wonderful children’s books. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet all authors in person and purchase their books. It’s a perfect opportunity to get an autographed or personalized literary gift!

Families will enjoy an afternoon filled with interactive presentations and activities that encourage audience participation. This event will surely inspire and enrich your children with stories and activities of discovery and family fun.

What can I expect?

This event is designed for family audiences to promote literacy and a love of literature by introducing children to books by Canadian authors and illustrators.

Popcorn will be provided to all ticket holders at one of the interactive Ally Loves Pajamas activity stations. Cotton Candy will also be provided to all children at the Ally Loves Pajamas meet the author station. Other snacks and beverages will be available for purchase at the Snack Bar. Please note, this is not a food allergy free event.

Every child will receive a loot bag, with a coupon for a digital copy of Ally Loves Pajamas, and other book swag including an activity book, bookmark, stickers, crayons, and pencil case. At the book marketplace, authors will have various giveaways at their booths.

All children must be accompanied by an adult 18+.

Where is the venue for this event?

The Small Arms Inspection Building, owned and operated by the City of Mississauga, is a 1940’s building that is mid-restoration after being rescued from the wrecking ball by our community. The space has a unique feel, with massive windows and a skylight running nearly end to end, making it a perfect venue for events.

Is Ally Loves Pajamas accessible?

Yes. The main exhibition space and all public facilities are barrier-free and include gender neutral washrooms. As in any private or public building, it is a smoke-free and vape-free environment. Please note that this is not an Allergen-free event/venue.

What COVID-19 precautions will there be?

Health and Safety is very important to us. Summer Arts Mississauga is operating under health regulations established by the City of Mississauga, Region of Peel Public Health and the Province of Ontario. COVID-19 safety regulations may be applied if required.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

The Small Arms Inspection Building is located at 1352 Lakeshore Road East, on the south side, at Dixie Road. There is plenty of free car parking available on the site and in the area. Get directions here.

There is continuous MiWay bus transit using Route 23 along Lakeshore Road East connecting to the Long Branch GO Train station and TTC on the east (approximately 1 km) and to all points along Lakeshore to Port Credit and Clarkson.

Are any profits made going to a good cause?

Ally Loves Pajamas is presented by CreativeHub 1352, a non-profit, charitable, community-driven organization which exists for the advancement of community cultural development through the arts, heritage, and environmental sciences. CreativeHub 1352 is one of many groups vital to the reuse of the Small Arms Inspection Building. All proceeds are reinvested to support community arts, heritage and environmental programs.

At this event, signed hardcover copies of Ally Loves Pajamas will be available at a discounted rate of $16/book. Christina and Paul Somers will also donate $3 from the sale of every book sold at this event back to CreativeHub 1352 to support their community initiatives.
