Event description

Description

For this poetry course, we will balance the traditional university-style workshop format with a generative, exploratory atmosphere.

We will work on creating communal literary magic for folks of all interests and levels. The workshop is an open invitation to anyone interested in writing in a setting that focuses on creation, experimentation, and sharing. I truly believe in the innovative potential of impromptu writing and group discussions.

We will work through on-the-spot writing exercises and prompts to jolt us out of our habits and pursue new directions and intuitions. We'll connect over what inspires and frustrates us in the process. We’ll read aloud writing that moves us and work through those connections in writing. We’ll then take this connective energy and engage with each other’s poems, providing constructive feedback and further avenues of inquiry.

Please bring paper, writing utensils, poems and sections of prose by authors who inspire you (to read aloud), and beloved objects for a communal altar. Participants will also submit 1-3 poems ahead of time for the group to read and engage with during the workshop.
