Alternative Assessment webinar series (Concept maps, Eportfolios, Collaborative exams)
About this event
There are numerous ways of assessing students’ learning. New technologies, open education, work integrated learning, experiential learning among many other factors bring a wealth of new possibilities to assess students in a more meaningful and creative way. Issues of equity, accessibility, and inclusion highlight the imminent need to design alternative ways of assessment. Way before the pandemic, many instructors have been using alternative assessment but in the last two years, the pandemic encouraged almost every instructor to be more innovative with their assessment designs.
During the three workshops, Dr. Elkhoury will introduce her work on alternative assessment which includes the principles of alternative assessment as well as three different types of alternative assessment and their applications. Participants will be introduced to several examples of alternative assessments. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about the application of alternative assessments in their own contexts.
The three types of alternative assessment discussed in our sessions are:
• Concept maps
• Eportfolios
• Collaborative examples
Each workshop will cover the following points:
• A definition of the alternative assessment technique presented
• The benefits of this specific technique
• The different applications of the technique
• How to evaluation and grade the technique
• Examples from the field
