Join us for an Evening of Cocktails and Jazz…

About this Event

We are thrilled to once again be hosting our annual Alzheimer Rendezvous, raising funds in support of the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay. To mark this important and exciting event, we invite you to join in this collaborative fundraising effort on the evening of October 2nd, 2019 at the Italian Cultural Centre. All funds raised will support local individuals and families affected by dementia.

This year’s event will take a different approach, boasting smooth jazz, signature cocktails and appetizers, along with a variety of Guest Speakers. We are excited to welcome Dr.Sharon Cohen, a renowned behavioural neurologist, leading a team of physicians and clinical staff at the Memory Clinic in Toronto. Dr. Cohen is committed to providing the highest quality of care, accurate memory test services, and essential resources to individuals and families affected by dementia. Next, we will have our local Ambassador, Bonnie Paajanen, who will speak on her journey as a caregiver to her beloved husband Bob. Her story was shared at out Walk for Alzheimer’s this past May, and made such an in impact, we are happy to welcome her to the stage at our Alzheimer Rendezvous, to help spread her message and share her journey. To close off the night, we will be welcoming Layne, the Auctionista. Layne, The Auctionista is not your average auctioneer! Layne ignites the power of philanthropy with their signature high-octane, live fundraising style. A bold and entertaining “Philanthro-tainer”, Layne’s performance combines philanthropy with entertainment, equalling full-on engagement as a Live Auction Performer and MC at every event. To standing ovations and wild applause, Layne never disappoints a room!

Rendezvous brings together friends, families, colleagues, businesses, and organizations to advance the cause and raise funds to address the needs of local families who are affected by dementia. We need your help more than ever. While Canadians are living longer and healthier lives, dementia is growing fast. Right now, more than 564,000 Canadians are living with dementia. In the district of Thunder Bay, more than 2,900 individuals are diagnosed. These numbers are expected to rise by 66% by 2031. Last year alone, the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay helped over 1,520 families along their dementia journey, offering free counselling, caring support and education. Our programs and services team work diligently to meet the growing demand, but growth of dementia continues to outpace our ability to provide services to everyone who needs them.
