Event description

Description

A wonderful evening of music both contemplative & celebratory!

The Kingston Choral Society, directed by Ian Juby and BrassWerks, under the baton of John Palmer, will perform beautiful and timeless music to reflect the solemnity of Good Friday and the joy which comes with Easter and the advent of spring. On the program: timeless favourites such as Bach's Crucifixus from the B Minor Mass, Jauchzet dem Herren by Schütz, and selections by Handel. There will be premieres of new arrangements for chorus and brass, such as O Magnum Mysterium, with BrassWerks playing from the gallery, to create an antiphonal sound surrounding the audience. Audiences will enjoy Duruflé's gorgeous Ubi Caritas, and music for brass by R. Vaughn Williams.

Interested singers will be invited to join in the music making at several points during the concert.

Experience the joy!

The Kingston Choral Society is has been part of the cultural fabric in Kingston for over 70 years, performing music of breadth and diversity. KCS searches out new music and new fields of work resulting in a wide repertoire ranging from early to contemporary music including oratorio and operatic works. Most recently, the choir performed Mozart's Requiem to a capacity crowd, and in May will perform Luminous Night of the Soul, a concert of newer music accompanied by piano and string quartet.

BrassWerks, a chamber brass and percussion ensemble, was formed to bring eastern Ontario the finest in traditional and contemporary music for symphonic brass. The 16-piece group consists of the brass and percussion sections of the Kingston Symphony, plus additional outstanding musicians.
