Description

Join Dr. Karol Mathews DVM, DVSc, Diplomate ACVECC for the Team Approach to Pain Management!

Most patients in the veterinary clinic suffer from some degree of pain associated with their traumatic, surgical or medical condition. In this talk Dr. Mathews will discuss the important roles that the whole team must play in assessing and managing their patient's pain. There will be a special emphasis on the role of technicians as "patient advocates". In addition to pain management protocols and patient stress reduction, this lecture will also include patient videos for your assessment and analgesic selection.

Dr. Mathews graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College, obtained a Doctor of Veterinary Science degree in Small Animal Surgery 1986, and Board Certification in the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (Diplomate ACVECC) in 1993. She was Service Chief Emergency & Critical Care Medicine, OVC 1989-2009, President of the Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care society 2002-2004, and Chair of WSAVA World Small Animal Veterinary Association and Council. Currently, she is an active University of Guelph Professor Emerita.
