Description

The Ancaster Horticultural Society holds its meeting on Tues October 17th, at Ancaster Library, Murray Ferguson Room (lower level), 300 Wilson St. E., Ancaster, ON L9G 2B9. Start time is 7:30 pm. The Society welcomes Field Ornithologist, Master Bander & environmental researcher, Cindy Cartwright. Cindy is the founder & Lead Researcher of Hummingbirds Canada (2010) and the founder & coordinator of the Ontario Hummingbird Project (2005). The overall goal of the Ontario Hummingbird Project is to understand the life cycle of Ontario's hummingbirds. The project involves participation from birders, banders & members of the general public throughout Ontario. Over 10,000 people have participated since the project began and several sub-projects have resulted. Cindy has had a permit to band hummingbirds in the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia from the Canadian Wildlife Service since 2001. There are less than 40 people in all of Canada that have banding permits with endorsements to band hummingbirds. Presently Cindy is one of 5 active Canadian banders with Master permits to band hummingbirds. The presentation will outline the project details, what has been learned so far, how people can participate and what we hope to learn in the future.

All are welcome. Admission is free. Registration is not required. Please note the new start time 7:30 pm and location: Ancaster Public Library 300 Wilson St. E. For more information contact Christine DeMarco at (905) 648-5134 or visit http://www.ancasterhort.org
