Women have long been leading the fight for a better world. From individual acts of resistance to international movements, women are pushing to dismantle systemic oppression and build communities grounded in justice, equity and dignity. To honour their work, and celebrate International Women’s Day, this event will feature dynamic women who are breaking boundaries, leading meaningful change in their communities and building a better world for us all.

Ian Mangenga, Founder and CEO of Digital Girl Africa
Ian Mangenga is the founder and CEO of Digital Girl Africa, a women-focused digital hub that is bridging the gap between women in Africa and technology through critical digital skills training. In 2020 she was named one of the 200 most influential young South Africans. She is an advocate of access and inclusion and as a designer her work is at the intersection of art, tech and social justice with a focus on women and girls in cities.
Emily Percival-Paterson, LGBTQ+ Sexual and Reproductive Health Researcher
Emily Percival-Paterson (she/they) is a public health researcher focused LGBT2Q+ sexual and reproductive health. She was the primary investigator on the Trans Birth Care in Canada study and sits on the advisory committee for several other LGBT2Q+ health focused studies. They have a BSc in Biology with a minor in Applied Ethics from the University of Victoria and a Master of Science in International Public Health with a specialization in Sexual and Reproductive Health from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine which she completed as a Rotary Global Grant Scholar. In their free time Emily and her fiance Clary have a small hobby farm where they grow flowers, food, and friends.
Amrita Kumar-Ratta, Founder & Creator, Shades of Brown Girl
Amrita is a multidisciplinary professional. She is a trained theatre and dance artist as well as a social researcher and community facilitator. In addition to being the Founder & Creator of Shades of Brown Girl, a global storytelling movement, she is the Lead Consultant at AKR Global Consulting, a firm dedicated to what she calls 'Glocal’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategizing. Currently a Human Geography PhD Candidate at the University of Toronto, Amrita is passionate about creating socially inclusive societies and focuses her work around themes of intersectional feminism and gender equity; migration, mobility, and the diasporic experience; and sustainable community development. An active member of numerous planning committees, advisory groups, and community initiatives in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond, she adores social policy research, loves to ask hard questions, and is a firm believer in using arts-based methods to catalyze healing, inspiration, and social change
