• Allyship

• Anti-Black, Anti-Indigenous and Systemic Racism

• History of Colonization

• Cultivating Empathy  and Compassion in Service Delivery and in Community

• Misinformation and Fake News

• Building Anti-Racist Organizational Structures and Policies

• Inclusive Services

• Anti-stigma with a focus on mental health, HIV, disability, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia

• Equity and Inclusion in the Newcomer Settlement Sector

The workshops will run throughout the year on a monthly basis and we are also aiming to organize interactive sessions to capture the learnings and have important reflections and conversations to ensure that the work continues beyond the event series.

Workshop #3: Wednesday, May 20, 2021 | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM EST

Our third workshop will focus on the topic of stigma and misinformation. This workshop builds upon knowledge and skills introduced in previous workshops around identity, privilege, and anti-racism to critically engage with the effects of stigma and misinformation. Attendees will have an opportunity to join break out rooms and participate in interactive and visual activities. People are encouraged to still join even if they didn't attend the first three workshops.

Workshop Provider

This capacity building workshop series will be delivered by the incredible team at Future Ancestors Services Inc. Future Ancestors Services is an Indigenous and Black-owned, youth-led professional services social enterprise that advances climate justice and equity with lenses of anti-racism and ancestral accountability.

Who should join?

Our goal is to engage all TEQ LIP's four action group members and community partners including members of our Scarborough Newcomer Council. Faith and grassroots groups and any individuals and organizations doing work to support newcomers and refugees in Canada are also invited to join the event and our conversations.

Please note that all participants who joined any of the first three workshops will be automatically registered in this session since it's also a part of the series. Full participation in all workshops in the series is encouraged but not mandatory. We want to ensure that everyone is making the best out of this learning experience. People are encouraged to still join even if they didn't attend the first three workshops.

How do I attend?

You will receive the Zoom link in the order confirmation email. The link will also be included in the email reminder before the workshop.

Accommodations and Accessibility

Closed captions will be provided. Please don't hesitate to contact us to request any other accommodations. We strive to keep all our events and activities inclusive and accessible, and we promise to do everything in our capacity to ensure full participation from everyone.
