About this Event

Deepen your understanding of the historic and current realities of racism in Canada. Explore the concepts of racial identity, racism, diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias in today’s world and within an organizational context. This two part training session will focus on issues of systemic oppression, race, inclusion and equity through discussions and interaction. Participants will work to understand, learn and apply key concepts and frameworks to their businesses and our community.

Our Guest Speaker:

Hawa Y. Mire is a proven strategic senior leader, equity consultant and community organizer with twelve years of non-profit experience focused on high-impact community development. In 2017 she completed a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from York University where her research examined community storytelling as a place of transformation. Hawa has designed and facilitated equity-based and organizational capacity building workshops nationally and international in a number of different urban and rural communities. As a critical writer, commentator and columnist featured in Macleans, Briarpatch Magazine, Metro Morning, CBC and CityTV, Hawa works to mobilize community change and stakeholder initiatives.
