Event description

Description

Anxiety - 8 week Mindful Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Group - Markham.

DESCRIPTION

Mindful CBT is a gentle yet effective combination of two proven methods for building skills to deal with anxiety. Delivered in a small group format of 5-8 participants, it is designed to allow for comfort and safety.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a development of the past 50 years that explores and seeks to modify the relationship between emotions, thoughts, behaviours and body states. It has been recognized by research scientists and clinicians as an evidence-based best-practice skills-based therapy for anxiety with a solid body of research supporting its efficacy.

Mindfulness emerges from a 2500 year old tradition discovered by the historical Buddha and preserved by practitioners world-wide. In recent years scientific research has shown it to have properties that promote mental, physical and emotional wellbeing with applications to anxiety, depression, chronic pain, etc. As such, it has made a tremendous impact in the practice and treatment of mental health in the west.

When combined, CBT aims to change maladaptive mental patterns while mindfulness allows CBT's tools to be gentle, caring and always informed by the gentle courage of self-acceptance. Together they form a powerful pincer-like approach to solving the issue of fear and anxiety: change balanced by self-acceptance.
