In this presentation, Kathryn will tackle below and other frequently asked questions about mental health in children with ASD:-Is this a mental health problem or "just behavior?"-Can we add mental health goals to my child's ABA program?-Sometimes my child struggles with anxiety. Does this mean she has "a disorder?"-My child is receiving treatment for a mental health condition. How can I support him at home or school?-I can't afford to pay for therapy. Are there any other options? Participants will learn basic ways to assess their child's mental health needs, examine treatment options, and create an effective support plan. Handouts will be provided.

Bio:Kathryn Theroux, MS, BCBA, is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Registered Clinical Counselor who holds a Master of Science in Applied Psychology from Long Island University. Kathryn provides behaviour consultation and counselling to school-aged children with neurodiverse conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder. She also supervises graduate students pursuing national certification in ABA. Prior to graduate school, Kathryn worked in an emergency psychiatric hospital in Virginia Beach and then implemented behavioral intervention for three years at the New England Center for Children. At NECC she acted as a preference assessment coordinator, case manager, and curriculum supervisor on the Staff Intensive Unit, a residential ABA program for children with ASD and severe behaviour disorders. Kathryn is a frequent speaker at community organizations for families and professionals who diagnose, teach, and care for individuals with ASD. Since 2009, Kathryn has taught in the ABA Support Worker program at Surrey Community College. Her course, entitled Foundations of Autism: Educational Considerations, is focused on the provision of inclusive education to neurodiverse learners. She co-directs her private practice in Vancouver, East Van Behavior Analysis LTD, and SOAR Inclusive Preschool at PAFN.
