Join us for lunch during the BMO Financial Group Apex Business Plan Competition! Apex will be hosting a panel about "Executing Your Business Plan". Panelists include Jeff Thompson, Aimée Foreman, Barry Bisson and moderated by Krista Ross. The discussion will take place at the UNB Wu Conference Centre on January 24th at 12:00 p.m. (Noon)

The Panel:

Aimée Foreman is an optimistic, analytical and results-driven leader. She believes in blue-sky thinking; marrying ideas with straight-forward action plans rooted in best practices. She is most passionate about cultivating social and economic impact through her ventures and collaborations.

As an accomplished executive she was recognized as a Top 50 Emerging Leader in Atlantic Canada by 21inc, has participated in the B4Change Social Venture Accelerator, and is an active member of the Wallace McCain Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

She maintains a depth of experience in strategy and execution having applied these areas of knowledge across several sectors including real estate development, e-commerce and eldercare. Currently, she spearheads opportunities that service the silver economy. She has worked in settings from start-up to wind-up resulting in a keen understanding of the entrepreneurial journey.

Currently, she serves as Chair of Ignite Fredericton and Knowledge Park, is an active mentor with Futurpreneur Canada, and sits as Council Member with the New Brunswick Collaborative for Healthy Aging & Care.

Jeff Thompson brings over 20 years of expertise in developing innovative solutions for the Fortune 500. Jeff founded two enterprise software company whose products enabled organizations to deliver great customers experiences while also improving organizational efficiency by an average of 20%. Both organizations were acquired by multi-national software companies recognized as leaders in their respective industries.

In addition to his entrepreneurial career, Jeff has worked in a variety of leadership positions including: NBTel a recognized innovator in the telecommunications industry; PowerTel, a competitive local exchange carrier in Australia; Exigen Group, a pioneer in enterprise SaaS applications; and Serenova where he served as the Chief Strategy Officer and CTO/EVP Engineering.

Jeff is currently Director of Software Investments at CGI and is responsible for investment strategies in a portfolio consisting of over 100 product offerings driving over 20% of corporate revenues annually. Jeff is a current board member and former board chair of Knowledge Park, Ignite Fredericton and Propel ICT, organizations focused on growing entrepreneurs and innovation. One who subscribes to paying it forward, Jeff is an active angel investor and advisor to several early-stage startups.

Barry Bisson is the CEO of Propel ICT, an Atlantic Canada virtual accelerator serving technology startups and companies engaged in corporate innovation.The early years of his career were spent in the federal public service with Transport Canada in Moncton and Ottawa in various positions related to air transportation operations and policy.

In 1983 Barry joined the Faculty of Engineering at the University of New Brunswick as a Professor of Civil Engineering and Coordinator of the UNB Transportation Group. He served in this capacity until July 1994 when he was appointed the Dr. J. Herbert Smith Chair in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship, a position he held until 2004.

In January 2005 Barry was appointed CEO of Shad Valley International, a national non-profit organization that operates the prestigious SHAD Program at several Canadian universities. The SHAD program challenges Canada’s exceptional high school students to realize their full potential by developing the leadership, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills that are essential for success in the global knowledge-based economy. He was also the first Director of the SHAD program at the University of New Brunswick in 1985 and 1986 and served again as Director from 1998-2004.

Barry retired from SHAD in 2016. He and his wife moved back to Atlantic Canada and reside in Stratford, Prince Edward Island. He failed at retirement and was appointed CEO of Propel in October 2017, a position that enables him to pursue his life-long passion for innovation and entrepreneurship. Barry holds BSc and MSc degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of New Brunswick and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

He is a member of the Board of Directors Propel ICT and the Startup Zone in Charlottetown. In 2009 he was named a Fellow of Engineers Canada. In 2013 he was awarded the distinction of Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of New Brunswick.

Krista Ross joined the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce as CEO in September of 2011 and in 2017 she was chosen Chamber Executive of the Year for Canada by Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada. Krista was also GM of the Fredericton Chamber from 1989 to 1997 followed by 14 years as an award-winning private business owner. Krista is excited about supporting businesses through the work of the Chamber, being a community leader, builder and economic development driver for Fredericton. Krista lives on Fredericton’s north side with her daughter Rachel.
