Alberta Chapter of the association of physicians of Pakistani-descent of North America is pleased to invite you at the educational session "preventing the chronic diseases" on January 25, 2020 at BMO Theatre Shane Homes YMCA Rocky Ridge, Calgary.

In Canada, it is reportd that 44% of adults 20+ have at least 1 of 10 common chronic conditions including hypertension 25%, Diabetes 11%, Ischemic heart disease 8%. Chronic diseases are projected to account for 89% of all deaths ( Cardiovascular disease 34%). WHO projects that over the next 10 years in Canada, deaths from chronic diseases will increase by 15%-most mrakedly, deaths from diabetes will increase by 44%. At least 80% of premature heart disease, stroke and type 2 Diabetes, 40% of cancer could be prevented through healthy diet, regular physical activity and avoidance of tobacco products.

Dr Klaper served as director of the institute of Nutrition education and research from 1992 through 2015 where he conducted a study that focused on people who ate a completely plant-based or vegan diet.

Dr Ashfaq Shuaib is a Professor of Medicine Division of Neurology University of Alberta since 1997. Dr. Shuaib’s major interests are in the understanding of the basic mechanisms of cerebral ischemia and developing clinical trials in cerebrovascular diseases . He has published over 400 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
