About this event

This Course provides a detailed account of ice installation and maintenance practices. The practical work of this Course will focus on ice maintenance. Emphasis will be on operation of ice resurfacer, edger, ice thickness, ice leveling, etc. Ice installation will be discussed more in the classroom portion of the Course. Several complementary topics are discussed, as well, to provide participants with a well-rounded knowledge of arena industry practices. All the aspects discussed are related to the successful and safe operation of an arena facility. Furthermore, this course will discuss and share best practices with the registrants.

Topics covered along with class participation include:

  • Principles of Ice Making – Ice Maintenance and Quality Control
  • Air Quality (IAQ)
  • Dasher Board Systems
  • Basic Refrigeration Operation
  • Ice Resurfacer – Maintenance, Operation and Safety

Primary Audience: Arena workers and supervisors who require a better understanding of ice maintenance, science of ice and industry best practices.

Mode of Training: The Course is designed to provide a balance of classroom instruction and practical demonstrations.

Course Materials: Registrants will receive an Arena Operators Level 1 binder of the topics covered in the Course.

Health & Safety Equipment: Proper steel toe footwear, ice cleats and clothing is required as we will be on the ice surface for extended periods performing tasks related to ice installation/maintenance.

Any behaviour that intentionally threatens the physical or emotional health and safety of the Facilitator/Instructor or another participant before, during or after training will be cause for immediate expulsion.
