Event Details

This one day, 3 module course is designed to provide a closer look at the roles and responsibilities of the Art Director. Budgeting, scheduling, and management of the Art Department personnel will all be examined  in depth. 

For Budgeting (Module One), topics covered include a discussion of Construction, Graphics, Labour, and supply budgets, Location Budgets vs. Studio Budgets, effective script breakdowns, and tracking your budget. 

 In the Scheduling Module, the class will cover timelines, schedules and flow charts for different stages of production, the impact of the Shooting Schedule on flow charts, tracking your schedule, and how changes will impact your schedule and timelines. 

 The Managing the Art Department module will review hiring an Art Department crew, the responsibility in distribution of information , and creating a safe, open, and productive work environment. 

If time allows, the class will also participate in an interactive exercise in creating a budget. 

Instructor: Marilyn Kiewiet

Marilyn is a Production Designer and an Art Director with the Director’s Guild of
Canada (Ontario). Having worked the gamut of every type of film and TV project with
every level of budget for 20 years, she brings her experience and knowledge to this
course with the hope of demystifying the complexities of the Art Department and provide
insight to it’s responsibilities and relevance within the world of film and television.

Do I need to register?

Yes, registration is required for this event.

Is this event open to everyone?

No, this event is only open to DGC and GAP members currently in Good Standing, who have pre-paid and registered for this event through this page. There will be no payments taken at the door.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, please bring your ticket as confirmation of your registration.

What is the refund policy?

If you notify the Training department within 1 business day of the event that you can no longer attend, you may request a refund for the course. Once a course has taken place, you are not able to receive a refund.
