“I have always been interested in the philosophy of aesthetics, which studies how artists imagine, create, and perform works of art. It is essentially the study of perspective. I am most curious about the representation of what art could be. I use my own painting to ask questions about space, and try to uncover the layers of our existence. I practice the act of conscious watching and listening, trying to hear things that are mute and see objects that are invisible. I seek out window reflections, the movements of the leaves that signify wind, and the passing of light through shadows. I have made it a priority to be present, all in an effort to better understand the world.”

Sarah Delaney

Vancouver-based artist Sarah Delaney was born and raised in Northwestern Ontario. She moved to the west coast of Canada in 2004 to pursue art and has been living there ever since.

A Sarah Delaney painting is a portal into a conversation. You can read the questions, responses, reactions and tangents emerging as the piece develops. While the variety of small marks and reactions that characterize her work are unforced and organic, they combine to tell a story. There is such intention and care, however spontaneously applied, that we recognize a statement without necessarily speaking the language.

Sarah holds a BFA in Visual Art from the University of Victoria and a DID from Vancouver College of Art and Design. Her work has been exhibited across North America, notably the Toronto Art Fair, and the NYC Art on Paper Fair.
