July 7: Talking about Disability Art & Culture with Kevin Gotkin.
- What is special and unique about disability art and culture?
- Why should we celebrate and promote it?
Artist Kevin Gotkin will share artwork and recent projects with us. Kevin’s artwork is often about the accessibility of media production, especially audio description and captioning. Kevin regularly hosts playful and participatory online events as part of the REMOTE ACCESS nightlife series. Kevin is passionate about building a movement for disability arts to thrive in New York City.
About the presenter:
Kevin Gotkin (they/them) is an artist and organizer. In 2016, Kevin founded an organization together with their collaborator Simi Linton. The organization that Kevin co-founded is called Disability/Arts/NYC. The goal of Disability/Arts/NYC is to foster disability artistry in New York City.
Advocating for disability artistry is about addressing discrimination and promoting the unique and profound value of disability arts. Kevin has a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Kevin taught at New York University from 2018 to 2021, in the Media, Culture, and Communication department.
ASL interpretation and closed captioning will be available.
Once registered, you will be emailed the Zoom link for the event.
