Event description
This is a 2-hour online group workshop - 8 people max.

About this Event

We will explore ideas around "visible mending" as a metaphor for considering our flaws, broken bits & wounds. Adorning our imperfections. Strengthening our understanding of our needs, and supporting (and reinforcing) our capacities to repair and connect ...and find our voices. Patchwork as a creative and regenerative practice of self care.

These workshops are a space for us to be together to process, express, integrate, rest up, share our faces and voices, and ground IN to ourselves and our collective strength. A space for us to refuel ourselves so that we can continue to move forward in this work of negotiating evermore creative ways to make the changes that we're wanting and needing.

A FEW NOTES

  • The group will be small, maximum 8 people.
  • Because all sessions will be held online (on Zoom), I will not be providing art materials, please see below for suggestions of materials to gather!
  • Registration is open to adults only.

MATERIALS LIST

  • Fabric swatches: one main piece that's at least 6" square (ish), and then several other pieces of varying size, colour, texture ...whatever you have on-hand. And don't overlook any wee pieces that you have, we want those too! Things like old clothing, pillowcases and linens can work as well.
  • Embroidery thread (ideally), but you can also use regular sewing thread, or a thinner yarn (as long as you have a needle that the yarn will fit through). This is also a good opportunity to use up any remnant bits of threads you have tucked away not knowing what to do with!
  • Embroidery (or tapestry) needle ...anything with a big enough "eye" to fit the thread that you'll be working with, and that's sharp enough to pass through your fabrics.
  • Scissors.
  • Optional: a sheet of thicker paper (watercolour/mixed media/cardstock).

MY WORKSHOPS

These workshops are something that we can do together, from afar, for ourselves and each other ….to hold ourselves and our communities together.

HOW THEY WORK...

  • All of my current workshops are happening online only, on the Zoom platform. Once you've registered through Eventbrite you will receive all of the info that you’ll need to access the workshop on Zoom.
  • Groups are small (max 8 people) & interactive. This means that everyone who attends is visible (via Zoom), and participates in the shared conversation & art-making throughout each 2-hr workshop.
  • Workshops are for adults only (18+).
  • With all workshops happening online, this means that you will need to provide your own art materials. I list all req’d materials (and suggestions for alternatives) on the Eventbrite page, so please check that list BEFORE registering to be sure that you have what you’ll need to participate.
  • PLEASE NOTE that my workshops will NOT be recorded. For reasons of confidentiality, privacy, and because we do share some personal stuff… I don’t record the sessions/workshops, and so recordings are not available as a resource to be sent to you later, or in instances of not being able to attend.
  • These groups are informal, chatty, and very much about sharing time and space ...stories, experiences, thoughts, frustrations, and what-have-you’s.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

  • If you would prefer to pay by e-transfer (rather than through Eventbrite), please go ahead and do that (send to Shauna Kaendo/info@heyshauna.com). Once I’ve received your payment, I will send you a registration code that will allow you to register through Eventbrite (to hold your space). If you choose this option, please send me an email to confirm your name, email, and e-transfer details.

REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS

  • PLEASE NOTE that workshop registrations are refundable within 3 days only …otherwise, they are transferrable so if you can’t make it, send a friend!

NOTES ABOUT WORKSHOPS IN GENERAL

  • If you’d like a visual glimpse into what we get up to in my workshops please visit me on Instagram (@heyheyshauna), or at www.heyshauna.com
  • You needn’t have ANY experience with art or art materials to participate (and benefit from) any of my workshops.
  • Groups are small, they are also generous, warm, and supportive... and easily among my favourite things.
  • In all of my workshops, our focus is on exploring different art materials in lots of different ways …and noticing how those different materials and processes make us feel. And while I am here for any technical assistance you may need, our goal is not to focus on technical skill…but instead on curiosity.
