Artful Bench and Bar: Night of 1000 Cranes
Thu, 20 October 2016, 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM MDT
You are invited to attend the 10th annual Artful Bench and Bar. The theme ‘A Night of 1000 Cranes’ has been chosen to commemorate this important milestone. According to an ancient Japanese legend, anyone who folds 1,000 origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. As a result, this tradition has become a symbol of hope and healing during challenging times.
The kids we help are in dysfunctional family situations; they've endured the death of a parent, have witnessed domestic violence or are dealing with the perils of living in poverty. They want to stay in school, for their employers to pay them for their summer job, for their parents not to take out their anger over the divorce on them. They are children forced to deal with adult issues who have nowhere else to turn for help. Children's Legal and Educational Resource Centre has been focused on the wellbeing of children for over a decade. Now the need for our services is so great, it has outstripped our capacity.
This year’s event will include a live and silent auction featuring art and experiences. This is the cocktail event of the year to see and be seen in Calgary, with over 300 people attending. Enjoy a welcome glass of prosecco provided by beverage sponsor Vine Styles while listening to Empowering Minds Live & Unsigned youth talent winner James van der Baaren. Dine on japanese inspired fare and enjoy the sounds of the William Aberhart Highschool youth jazz quartet while bidding and networking into the late evening hours.
By attending this event, you will be contributing to our goal of raising $85,000 to clear our growing waitlist. A $50 tax receipt will be provided for each ticket sold. If you can't attend, but want to help us reach our goal you can donate by clicking on 'Get Tickets' and choosing the 'Donation' option. All donations over $20 will receive a tax receipt.
The very foundation of CLERC is hope. We approach our work with the diligence and patience of folding 1,000 paper cranes. With your support, we can grant disadvantaged young people in our community the ultimate wish: one of hope for a better future.
