Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Are you a passionate change maker … who would like to integrate arts-practices into your work?

Are you an artist … who would like to learn about community engaged art and art AS social change?

Are you a curious and engaged citizen … looking for creative approaches to addressing social injustice?

We invite YOU to join an exciting and creative series of artful collaborations aimed at mobilizing the existing talents and capacities in our community, and sharing additional knowledge and skills that will bring the arts into change agendas.

ARTogether, ACTogether 2017 is an on-going knowledge exchange and incubator for local projects and partnerships, a place and time to share resources. We invite you to join our ARTogether ACTogether Community of Practice. Communities of Practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn to do it better as they interact regularly.

Our five sessions will include local practitioners and scholars with backgrounds in Fine Arts, Social Work, Education and Health Sciences coming together with change-makers from diverse sectors, creating space for fusion of ideas and action through new community connections. If you can please commit to and sign up for all five sessions.

To start things off February 24, we are offering:

  • Theatre for change workshop

  • Arts-based mindfulness for social activists

  • Group think on what we will commit to and want out of these sessions

Who is coming?

YOU! Yes…You! You are warmly invited to participate. We seek to bring together people with a diversity of:

  • Professions (health, education, social work, business, artists, activists, funders …)

  • Modalities of artistic engagement (theater, dance, music, poetry, painting, sculpture, creative writing, spoken word, creative facilitation...)

  • Interests/ Issues (health promotion, indigenous issues, education, food sovereignty, cultural regeneration, youth, wealth equity, human rights …)

  • Identity/world view (class, ethnicity, race, religion, culture, sexuality, age, ability…)

  • Experiences (brand new to the field, long time practitioners, somewhere in between)

This event is being hosted as part of the ASC! Art for Social Change Research Partnership - a nationwide five year research network funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the University of Lethbridge.

Please note:

Participants will have the opportunity to be part of the ASC! partnership's teaching and learning research. When you register for the event, you will receive a copy of the research consent form, explaining the details of this process. If you agree to participate, you will sign and submit the research consent form on Friday, Feb. 24, the first gathering of our Community of Practice.
