Event description

Description

About: The Arts Ecology Salon is a quarterly networking and development event for artists in Brantford/Brant. We hope to help artists realize their potential as leaders in creative and artistic expression by creating the environment needed to nurture and support their work.

Theme: “Innovation and Rigour over Generations”

Performance (30 mins)

Marcia Pereira (Multidisciplinary Artist & Vocalist, Brantford) from Metronōm will engage us in a musical performance with diverse soundscapes examining the human relationship between language and emotion.

Keynote Roundtable (30 mins)

VIAs (Very Important Artists)

Arlene Laskey (Acrylic Painter and Mixed-Media Artist, Brantford), Nathan Etherington (Program & Community Coordinator, Brant Historical Society), Dr. Michael Doxtater (Queen's National Scholar in Indigenous Studies, Queen’s University) will engage us in a roundtable storytelling session about their deep roots in Brantford, Brant County and Six Nations. This panel of artists and creatives, whose families have been here over generations, will speak to our communities’ past as spaces of innovation in both arts and culture, the rigour that is defined over generations, and how we can (re-)engage innovation so that we can continue to nurture and shape our communities in the coming years.

Artists' Huddle with VIAs (30 mins)

A 'mix and mingle' encouraging collaboration and engagement. This is a chance for us to go around the room and talk with other artists and creatives, including the VIAs in attendance, about their work and projects one-on-one so that we can network and connect with one another. Drinks and food available for purchase from the Hall's bar and kitchen. The Polish Alliance of Brantford Ladies' Circle invites you to try their renowned, homemade pierogi.

Mid-Sized Performance Space Working Group (15 mins)

The Arts Ecology of Brantford / Brant is forming a working group to continue developing a Mid-Sized Performance Space in Brantford. This Call for Researcher Fellows will begin with an open discussion on needs and feasibility, followed by a short presentation on the current project plan and ways to get involved as either a member or a Research Fellow.

Coda (5 mins)

Final thoughts and an invitation to keep up-to-date with our events and work via our Facebook page and website.
