A Truly Unique Photographic Experience... Sign me up!

All of us are creative spirits when we are young yet somehow that energy is suppressed as we get older and busier, dealing with daily life.

Enter Covid...

Engaging in the creative arts process is a solitary pursuit. With Covid isolation, how has the time away from others changed us? While we have had opportunity to reflect and slow down, it is in this space, perhaps beyond our comfort zone, where the greatest changes may have already inspired you to re-capture your creative spirit.

This seven-day outdoors Field Class workshop* is primarily an artistic tour for photographers, painters, naturalists, and others interested in the iconic west coast landscape. The goal is to make learning the art of photography as seamless and straightforward as possible. An artistic experience designed idea to put you back on track to experimenting on your own and help you interpret the world in a new way, far beyond the technical limitations of your camera.

Magnificent and haunting, we’ll uncover the enigmatic beauty that lies along the eastern and western shores of Vancouver Island — where nature, art, and creativity play a central role. We’ll explore the trails and beaches that feature striking rock formations and tumbled, polished rocks, gigantic breakers, myriad shells, aquatic plants, brightly-coloured lichens and other land plants. One “feels” eternity in this west coast idea of immeasurable seclusion. Vancouver Island is your near-perfect Eden. Welcome!

You need not be an artist to attend, for the most important tool to bring is your imagination and sense of wonder. Count on taking away a strong personal diary of images that are imbued with meaning, grace, and clarity.

So, where should you start and what should you do? The fact that you're reading this right now is your key to making the artistic photos you've always hoped for. So congratulations. It's time to register.

Book with Confidence. Future Travel Credits (FTCs). FTCs are available for cancellations made between the time of booking and 45 days prior to the scheduled workshop date. FTCs may be applied to multiple workshops and may be transferred to friends or family.

COVID-19 UPDATE (as of March 14, 2021): Currently, all workshops are continuing as planned with additional measures taken to maintain a safe environment. Rendezvous: Victoria, BC.

Locations to be visited: Several including Victoria, Sooke, Port Renfrew, Parksville, and Tofino. Tofino may be subject to travel restriction.

Criteria: The field class workshop involves approaches to subject matter. There is no one right way of working, no one lens for all subjects. No one answer to a photographic problem. Problem-solving in the field is a matter of what equipment you already own, what subject matter you want to photograph, and most realistically, what lenses and accessories you happen to have with you. In locating subject matter and working in the field, the best advice is to learn as much as you can about the natural world.

Skill Level: Primarily suited for intermediate photographers, novice photographers are welcome provided that they have a basic understanding of their own camera and lenses. We ask the more advanced photographers to be understanding if this advice seems trivial.

Routine: Each day starts by 9 AM and ends when darkness falls. Some earlier starts at daybreak. Our itinerary is subject to change in relation to the weather of the day.

Accommodations: We have secured a block of rooms at each of our destinations at a discounted rate. It is to your advantage to book accommodation well ahead of time to secure a room and at the discounted rate.

Transportation: We have also secured an excellent car rental rate while on Vancouver Island. Contact us for details.

Weather: This workshop operates rain or shine.

Minors: Group photo adventures are recommended for adults over the age of 19. An adult must accompany any minors under the age of 19. Both adult and minor are required to pay for each respective spots within the photo workshop.

* your own transportation is required.
