Event description

Corporate Volunteerism on Toronto Island at

Artscape Gibraltar Point

Join us on the shores of Gibraltar Point for a day of work and play! We are looking for a team to lead a exciting landscaping project and prepare the community garden for yet another growing season! We will be planting flowers, rolling out green grass and hauling soil, with all that work being rewarded with a delicious island BBQ and of course just good feelings of helping out a really neat arts and cultural centre on Toronto Island!

Artscape Gibraltar Point opened in 1999. Housed in a former school house surrounded by 46 acres of parkland, it is operated by Artscape as an arts and cultural facility, open year round. Over the years Artscape Gibraltar Point has hosted thousands of artists both local and international, who have taken advantage of the facility’s quiet and natural setting to focus on their practices and projects through short term residencies and long term studio rentals. Artscape Gibraltar Point has also become recognized as a perfect place to host a variety of events.

Why we need your help While Artscape Gibraltar Point has been a great resource for the city and artistic community, the old school structure requires ongoing and costly repairs. We often relay on the generosity of volunteers to complete tasks like painting, landscaping, gardening and simple renovations. These activities make a real measurable impact to the community that enjoys this space each year. This spring we are focusing on a garden and grounds revitalization project. Our beautiful garden provides fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs to the artists staying at Artscape during the growing season and the natural setting is a big draw for the many clients that book our space for weddings, festivals and staff retreats.

Where you come in we’re looking for help from Salesforce to lend volunteer efforts in revitalizing our garden and grounds this spring. These projects are not only a great way to support a good cause, but also an opportunity for collegiality and team spirit in the workplace. We are looking for a team that is willing and able to volunteer their time and make a donation towards material costs equaling $25-60 per person. The total amount of funds we wish raise is $3,000 +, with individual tax receipts issued by the Artscape foundation for donations over $25. Our lush green lawns have turned to sand due to the high traffic of dancing and lounging guests each summer. We want to plant new flower gardens, lay down nice green grass and lay patio stones to improve the outdoor space for our many guests. This project has a true transformative impact and will really showcase how the funds raised and volunteer time spent by Salesforce have made a huge difference to the facility and community enjoyment of space.

When We are looking for 1- 2 days of volunteer help mid May. We are hoping to have 8-6hrs per day of work.

Where Artscape Gibraltar Point is located on southern shores of Toronto Island at 443 Lakeshore Ave. A 10minute voyage on a vintage ferry is an integral part of the Gibraltar Point experience. Artscape will provide transportation service in our vintage shuttle bus from the Hanlans Point ferry upon arrival and departure. Getting to Gibraltar Point is a big part of the fun. The Salesforce office is just steps away from the ferry terminal and makes for an easy and exciting commute!

Activities Include:

· Fun bus ride in vintage bus off ferry boat

· Tour of facility and an artist studio

· Snacks and beverages all day

· Lunch break

· END OF DAY COMPANY BBQ! Once job is complete we can sit back and enjoy the newly revived grounds with a tasty food and drink!

Work tasks include:

· Planting seedlings in the garden

· Moving compost into garden beds

· Moving new soil into garden beds

· Laying down new grass on the south lawn

· Creating new flower beds and planting perennials

· Raking leaves and clearing organic debris from grounds

· Leveling ground for patio stones

· Moving and laying out new patio stones

We are very much looking forward to working with Salesforce on out on the island! Artscape uses Salesforce as an operating system across its portfolio almost everyday, this volunteer opportunity will only deepen that relationship and we look forward to fostering new ties! Thank you very much for your consideration! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at all!

Artscape is a not-for-profit urban development organization that makes space for creativity and transforms communities. Our work involves clustering creative people together in real estate projects that serve the needs of the arts and cultural community and advance multiple public policy objectives, private development interests, community and neighbourhood aspirations and philanthropic missions. Five of our properties operate as unique and creativity-driven event venues. Revenues from venue rentals directly contribute to building operation costs through social enterprise – keeping these great cultural landmarks open to the public and accessible for the arts community.
