Event description

Description

In follow up to our teacher Pro-D program at Mineral Exploration Roundup in January, MineralsEd is partnering with Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. to tour their Ashlu Creek run-of-river (ROR) hydroelectric power generating plant near Squamish. ROR hydroelectric plants are small scale operations that produce renewable energy from moving water without the need to store it.

Innergex is a Canadian company that develops, acquires, owns and operates hydroelectric faciliities, solar farms, and wind farms in Canada, the United States, France, and Chile. Innergex has 66 renewable power producing facilities operating globally: 37 hydroelectric facilities, 25 wind farms, and 4 solar farms. Ashlu Creek is one of 21 ROR hydroelectric facilities operated by Innergex in British Columbia.

MineralsEd invites you to join Innergex Director of Government Relations Julia Balabanowicz and Innergex Director of Engineering Tom Furst for a tour of the Ashlu Creek ROR hydroelectric power generating plant. Learn all about the site selection, the environmental assessment, the operation, the role of ROR energy in our grid, as well as other renewable energy projects Innergex develops.

If you are teaching a mining unit, Science, Geography, Enviromental Science,Social Sciences or are a Career Educator, this field trip is an excellent opportunity to learn about the ROR hydroelectric process and renewable energies in general.
