Description

ASIST (two-day training)

ASIST, which stands for Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, is a two-day intensive, interactive and practice-dominated course. It is designed to help workshop participants become more ready, willing and able to recognize when someone is considering suicide and it prepares participants to review risk, intervene, and support the individual in keeping safe for now. In the ASIST training participants will learn to:

  • Recognize people at risk of suicide
  • Talk to them, hear their stories and understand their situations
  • Help them keep safe develop a personal safety plan
  • Connect them to lifesaving community supports and resources

Over 100,000 people in 30 countries attend ASIST each year.

PLEASE NOTE:

Talking about suicide can be difficult, especially if you have recently been impacted by a suicide attempt or death. Healing from these tragic events can take months or years, so we encourage you to take time for healing before attending suicide intervention training.

If you have experienced a suicide death healing support is available at BC Bereavement Helpline 1-877-779-2223, and www.bcbereavementhelpline.com.

You can also access information and support at: Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention, www.suicideprevention.ca/grieving/suicide-grief/.
