Kenneth Myers, CQE, CSSBB, Present Chair of ASQ Section 405
President and senior consultant at Ascendant Consulting Service, Inc., now in its 15th year assisting organizations in the development and implementation of competitive strategies supporting the design, management, and improvement of processes, products, and services in the automotive, electronic, medical and pharmaceutical industries.
Ken holds a diploma in Engineering and a BSc Physics degree from San Diego State University. He is a senior member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and has been an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer since 1993 and a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt since 2006.

Course Description
This course is provided to assist designers, managers, and engineers responsible for developing and/or improving processes and products. No previous experience or exposure to the subject is required.  Note, this is an introductory course developed to support two additional course modules.  The full DOE course will be held over three separate sessions. 

What You Will Learn

  • The Design of Experiment, DoE, terminology. 
  • The difference between Exploratory, Confirmatory, and Conservative
    statistical studies and when to use each.
  • The advantage of using DoEs over conventional trial and error methods.
  • The classification of DoEs and when to use each type.
  • The connection between DoEs, process capability, and process control. 
  • How to conduct Full-Factorial DoEs and analyze the results. 
  • How to interpret the results and optimize the process or product design.

  • Using DoE software to reduce calculation overhead
  • Closing Comments and Observations 


Pre-requisites:  None.  The attendee should be familiar with such statistical terms as standard deviation, average, and the Normal distribution.

Software Support

This course will be supported with the SigmaXL software package that will cost $20 for a 6 month license and a student course manual.  This software integrates with Excel versions 2010-2019, but is not compatible with Office 365.  Details on licensing for this software and installation instructions will be provided within 3 days of the first course date.

ASQ Kitchener has about 300 members from the Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, and Stratford areas. Run entirely by volunteers, we focus on creating value for our members by holding monthly events at little or no cost to section members and other attendees.
