Event description

Description

Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA), Alberta Urban Municipal Association (AUMA), and Infrastructure and Asset Management Alberta (IAMA) are excited to bring you half day asset management capacity-building workshops for elected officials and senior administrators! Through support of the Government of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) workshops will be offered free of charge.

This workshop is designed to be an introduction to asset management for elected officials and CAOs only.

Although the workshop is open to all municipalities in Alberta, because it is an introduction, it will be most helpful for smaller municipalities or those with limited progress on implementing asset management.

Topic: It's Got Teeth but Doesn't Bite: Developing and Implementing an Effective Asset Management Policy

What will you get out of the workshop?

During this half-day workshop, you will be introduced to asset management through two modules with the following goals:

Module 1— Identify the Role of Policy in Asset Management

  • Learning Goal: Identify the Role of Policy in Municipal Governance
  • Learning Goal: Identify the Role of Policy in Asset Management

Module 2— Evaluate Asset Management Policy Statements

  • Learning Goal: Outline an Organization’s Commitment to Asset Management, and the Objectives and Mandated Requirements for Asset Management
  • Learning Goal: Connect asset management to the organization’s strategic objectives, values, priorities, and community objectives
  • Learning Goal: Outline Principles to Guide Decision-Making About Assets and the Approach to Managing Costs and Funding

The workshop is being offered at no cost to remove one of the financial barriers we know can prohibit participation in educational workshop opportunities for elected officials and municipal staff.

Registration and a contiental breakfast will begin at 7:30AM in the Westlock Inn and Conference Centre workshop to begin at 8:30AM and will run until 12:30PM. Registration is restricted to elected officials and CAOs only, please indicate in the registration form the municipality and position title of each participant.

Please bring a writing utensil and all other materials will be provided.
