Description

Martin Kerr and Anthony Lovesey are proud to partner with ATB and Crescendo Music Studios to bring you the 'Making a Living in Music' workshop.

Martin Kerr - Martin began his musical career on the streets of Edmonton busking any time he would get a chance and selling CD's from his guitar case. Over time, Martin sold 20,000 CD's and became a regular at private events, corportae events and public events. Using these events as a way to connect with people, Martin went on to sell out the 1700 seat Winspear Centre in Edmonton, open for Sarah McLachlan at Rogers Place and have a top 10 album on the Canadian Album Chart. In 2018, Martin will be playing the Winspear again aswell as travelling to Australia to record new music with Chris Vallejo who worked with Passenger on 5 albums including the world wide number one hit single ' Let Her Go' - Martin will be sharing with you how he has been able to make a career from from playing music.

Anthony Lovesey - Anthony began working with Martin Kerr in September 2016 and has been instrumental in Martin Kerr's recent successes. Anthony is currently attending Canada's Music Incubator Artist Management Program and will be talking about an Artist/Manager relationship and answering questions like, When do I need a manager? Who should I have as my manager? What should a manager do for me? - Anthony will also be lightly touching on contracts, label deals - pros and cons, songwriting splits, licensing and publishing.

ATB - We are very proud that ATB have agreed to send Ben Spencer along to our workshop. Ben Spencer is the driving force behind ATB's Arts Branches which you will see starting to pop up all over Alberta. As a musician himself, Ben really understands the struggles of being an artist and trying to raise a family. Trying to convince a bank that you are making money, proving it to them can be harder. Savings, mortgages, credit cards - are all things that most adults will one day need and these things can look a little different when you are an artist so having Ben Spencer joining us to share more information on how ATB accomodates artists once they have made that step in to becoming a professional musician.
