Description

The AUTHOR FEST FUNDRAISER on October 5, 2019, celebrates Authors and Publishing and supports Babies and Families. In my world, Birthing Books and Birthing Babies are very closely related!

My profession is book publishing and stories, and as an international author success coach and bestselling author, I feel a strong connection between guiding clients on how to share their stories with the world by birthing their books and families creating theirs by giving birth to their children. Each is a very personal experience that requires courage and vulnerability and a bit of the fear factor sprinkled in for good measure. Books and children inspire us and others, with wonder and joy. Each experience changes your life forever and asks us each to step up into new roles in society. I am passionate about family and books - birthing babies and birthing books. I hope this inspirational, innovative and creative fundraising event allows me to bring the best to the Lakeshore Hospital, while supporting the best in literary excellence. It's my absolute pleasure to create a fundraising event to shine the light on one to support the life-changing work of another.

Meet authors, hear their stories, visit different Author Talk Spotlights, participate in a live Q&A Publishing Panel. Learn what it takes to become an author and everything you could possibly want to know about writing and publishing a book. There will be special guests, doors prizes, musical entertainment, a silent auction and more.

My Why

In May, 1991, I became a mom for the first time. Dr. John Bray was my doctor and I delivered the first of three children, a healthy baby boy named Christopher at the Lakeshore General Hospital. There was no such thing as a "Birthing Center" back then, we brought our babies into the world in a sterile operating room, babies were taken and brought back to the recovery room, and then we returned to our hospital room where we generally stayed for about 48 hours.

In March 1995, I returned to the Lakeshore General Hospital to deliver our second son, Benjamin. He was delivered by Dr. Bray and also in the O.R.

In October 1998, I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to deliver our "ice storm baby", our daughter Samantha. My labor was short, only four hours so when I arrived, I was ready to head right into the O.R. Instead, I was brought into a lovely room for the remainder of my labor, with a comfy bed, plenty of room to walk around in privacy and experience a natural birth. The bed became a delivery bed, and Dr. Bray arrived in the middle of the night to safely deliver her. She was looked after in our room by the excellent nurses, our two sons visited, our parents, and THIS birthing experience, was far beyond compare.

Almost 21 years later to the day, I would like to honor every family who has delivered since then at the LGH Birthing Center, and the 1800 families annually who currently experience childbirth in this world class environment and facility. The Birthing Center supports all of Mom's needs and is regularly upgrading their equipment. With your donation, you are having a DIRECT impact on patient care. YOU can make a difference.

Community Partnership

I am honored to partner with the Lakeshore Hospital Foundation to raise a minimum $5,000 to support the Birthing Center and their on-going care for families serving a very wide geographic region. I am very grateful to the care I received 28, 24 and 21 years ago, and that each of my babies were delivered by my own doctor and at a hospital close to home. I would like to take this opportunity to give back to the institution located in the community where I grew up and started my family.

HELP ME HELP the Lakeshore General Hospital by donating to this Innovative and Creative Fundraising Event in support of the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation. All proceeds will support the ongoing excellent family care at the Birthing Center at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe-Claire, QC on Saturday, October 5th at the historic and stunning Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
