Using the recreation model developed by the Special Olympics, Peel ACTTs will feature Active Start (6-7pm)FUNdamentals (7-8pm) programs for individuals with ASD for this 10 session program.

Active Start

Active Start (from 6-7pm) is a program for individuals with ASD with increased difficulties and who generally need TA support at school. Participants will work on following group instruction, develop basic movement skills and follow a routine with visual supports. The goal is for the participant to have the physical skills and fitness ability to participate in physical activities and to have fun!

Notes for Active Start:

- Suggested age - 4 to 12+ years old:  This is a recommended age only.  For this program only, if your child is slightly older and you think they suit this program, please register.
-This program requires a caregiver to support their child and participate in the full duration of the each session for all 10 sessions.

FUNdamentals

FUNdamentals (from 7-8pm) is an advanced program for children with ASD who are able to follow group instructions independently and, generally, do not require TA support at school. The participant learns physical literacy; the more fundamental motor skills necessary for activities and sports.  The intention is for individuals to participate in school and organised physical activities with confidence. The participants will also learn to interact with one another (team environment) and have fun!

Notes for FUNdamentals:

- Suggested age - 9 to 15+ years old - this is a recommended age only.  For this program only, if your child is slightly older and you think they suit this program, please register.

-This program requires caregivers to remain present for the entire 10 sessions of the event and participate when needed.

Both programs are overseen by a facilitator who is a trained IBI therapist, an assistant as well as Autism Ontario Volunteers.

Spaces are very limited.

General FAQ

1.) Do I need to print out ticket or email confirmations to attend this event?
For most of our events there is no need to print anything, unless the event specifies otherwise.  When you arrive at the event, you will have to check in at the registration desk.  You will be asked for your name and how many people are attending with you.  That's all.

2.) Do I need to bring proof of diagnosis?
No, not needed.  Again, just check in at the registration desk and enjoy the event.

3.) Is there a cost to attend this event?
Many of our events are free of charge because the cost is covered by Autism Ontario's Potential Programme, in partnership with Ontario’s Ministry of Children & Youth Services and the local Autism Ontario Chapter.  If there is a cost, you will see it on the registration page when you select how many ticket you want.

4.) Do I need to be a member of Autism Ontario to register and participate?
No.  While membership does provide other great opportunities, events provided through Autism Ontario’s Potential Programme are open to all families of children with ASD, under the age of 18, who reside in Ontario.
