Event Details

Are you someone who has a family member with Autism?

Are you a professional who works with someone with Autism?

Are you a first responder?

Are you someone who is curious about what it is like to live with Autism?

Autism Ontario invites you to the Autism Reality Experince.

The Autism Reality Experience is an innovative, hands on training session in a specially set up mobile unit which has been developed to give people an experience of the sensory processing difficulties faced by people on the autism spectrum. The experience is fully immersive, interactive and a must for anyone who is involved in supporting people on the autism spectrum.

Sensory processing difficulties are very common among people on the autism spectrum and this can have a profound impact on a person's ability to manage with day to day living. The experience itself enables beneficiaries to experience what sensory overload can be like by the use of specialist equipment and a simulated environment. All learners will be required to carry some basic tasks as well as manage the effects of sensory overload.

Each participant will go through a video demonstration that will tap into their emotional and physical sensory systems. Individuals will be provided gloves and head phones while watching a video, and then perform a number of tasks after the video is over. They cannot ask any questions or ask for assistance. “Noises, lights, and overwhelming reactions”

Each demonstration will last approximately 15 minutes and allows for 2 people at a time to go through.  A short debrief will take place after.

Please join us.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1) Do I need to print out ticket or email confirmations to attend this event? For most of our events, there is no need to print anything unless the event specifies otherwise. When you arrive at the event, you will have to check in at the registration desk. You will be asked for your name and how many people are attending with you. That's all.

2) Do I need to bring proof of diagnosis? No, not needed. Again, just check in at the registration desk and enjoy the event.

3) Is there a cost to attend this event? Many of our events are free of charge because the cost is covered by Autism Ontario's Potential Programme, in partnership with Ontario’s Ministry of Children & Youth Services. If there is a cost, you will see it on the registration page when you select how many tickets you want.

4) Do I need to be a member of Autism Ontario to register and participate? No. While membership does provide other great benefits, events provided through Autism Ontario’s Potential Programme are open to all families of children with ASD, under the age of 18, who reside in Ontario.
