Autism Ontario Durham Region is proud to offer support group meetings monthly, led by volunteer facilitators (parents and/or autism community professionals) or the Family Support Coordinator. These meetings provide a wonderful opportunity to talk with other chapter members, families and others supporting individuals living with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
By attending our support group meetings, you will be provided the opportunity to get assistance with pressing challenges or issues, receive support and guidance by dedicated individuals willing and able to offer the assistance you may be requiring and who knows you might even make a life-long friend or two.
School issues are a common topic in our meetings. With the school year just started we thought it would be helpful to parents/caregivers to get some expert advice on advocacy and the special education process. We are pleased to have Ruth M. Strunz with us for the first hour. Ruth is a ASD Family Therapist/Educational Consultant at Mindful Guidance in Peterborough. If you have a question you would like answered during her session you will have the opportunity to enter it during the registration process, and Ruth will be prepared with the answer at the meeting.
Respite for children ages 3-12 will be offered for this date. We now have 2 trained respite workers on staff in addition to volunteers.
Light refreshments will be served.
NOTE: If you register to for respite and cannot attend, PLEASE send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know. Thanks for your cooperation.
