Event description

Description

The advances in robotics and AI have become prominent in the news recently, with self-driving vehicles replacing truck & taxi drivers, IBM’s Watson outperforming radiologists, and law firms replacing junior lawyers with research algorithms. This drive to fully automate our economy could eventually replace every job.

Meanwhile, we now have almost unlimited free music, movies, and services online. With 3D printing and nanotechnology promising to do the same with physical goods, and the cost of harnessing and storing the abundant renewable energy around us continuing to drop, we appear to be entering a new era of abundance.

With very few options for people to earn an income, and very little need to purchase anything, our economy will be radically transformed. This world without jobs or material need is sometimes referred to as 'Post-Capitalism'.

To learn about the technologies driving these trends and take a look at what the future might hold, join us for an in-depth presentation by futurist and speaker Darren Harnett.

It will be followed by a thorough Q&A session where you will be able to ask questions of both the speaker and the host, Wyatt Tessari (Executive Director of the CHS).

6:45pm - Doors open
7:00pm - Welcome & Introductions
7:15pm - Keynote
8:00pm - Q&A

The “A look at our future” series is presented by the Centre for Human Success, a Toronto-based non-profit dedicated to catalysing public discussion on technological issues. Our full list of upcoming events is available here.
