Event description
We're a collective of artists, DJs and event producers with the shared passion to showcase & celebrate local and international Queer talent

About this event

Babes on Babes is hosted on unceded and occupied Indigenous land belonging to the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

For anyone who is new to Babes On Babes, we're a Queer long weekend event and dance party based out of Vancouver, Canada. We're a collective of artists, DJs and event producers with the shared passion to showcase and celebrate local and international Queer talent.

We are thrilled to announce that we’ll be using a new-to-us platform to bring our community together through queer music and culture from the comfort of your own hopefully solid wifi connections.

This virtual venue will offer a unique way for us to build new friendships that transcend space and time zones. Let’s expand on how we show up and hold safer space for the Queer community! We may have had to pivot but we’re embracing the change and choosing to grow.

We're V excited to announce our production partnership with Sum of Us!

They'll also be hosting our awesome unique Babes virtual social hour from 7pm-8pm!

Sum of Us is the leading producer of diverse and inclusive events in North America. They use a virtual platform called Remo, which is a 2D interactive map with virtual tables or rooms. Remo simulates real time interactive mingles and events, allowing attendees to have control over who you interact with and which tables they move too. Attendees are able to use video, audio, and chat to interact in real-time from anywhere around the world!

In true Babes format, this is a multi room event with our dance party taking place on zoom and our social hangs in Remo. Feel free to jump back and forth from room to room.

Dubbed "Calgary’s first lady of Breaks”, Krista Thibodeau a.k.a. Molly Fi has spent the better part of two decades breaking down the walls for fellow women and non-binary DJs and performers.

In 2003 Thibodeau founded Girls on Decks, a collective that’s unified DJs, FeMC’s, and dancers to become an important and influential movement in Western Canada. Still operational to this day, the collective has served as the launching point for the music careers of hundreds of women and developed new spaces for the LGBT community with its inclusive events.

A three-time nominee for Best Of Calgary’s best DJ category, Thibodeau is also a notable DJ in her own right, bringing her signature blend of infectious and dance-inducing breaks to stages alongside artists like Slynk, The Funk Hunter, Neon Steve, and Smalltown DJs. An alumnus of 2019’s Fractal Forest lineup at Shambhala Music Festival, her entry in the festival’s mix series caught the attention of DJ Mag, who featured Molly Fi in its list of 12 emerging artists to watch.

Past festival appearances also include Fozzyfest, MEMETIC, AEMCON, Vibrant Music Festival, Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Jasper and Vancouver Pride, Peak A Boom, and the Calgary Burlesque Festival.

A natural entrepreneur in spirit, 2019 also saw the launch of Boombox Boutique, a luxury corporate DJ service created alongside longtime Girls on Decks collaborator Jamie Jams. Together they’ve supplied corporate functions around the city with unforgettable soundtracks and consultation in both technical and creative areas.

Thibodeau currently works as a mentor and educator for the Children’s Legacy Foundation and Beat Drop, teaching youth and aspiring artists about DJing, music business and event organization.

Molly Fi is a certified A-list performer, social motivator, and community building icon who continues to stand the test of time in the arena of electronic breaks.

DJ Krista Mac is a queer, feminist performer who knows how to amp up a dance floor. Based on the west coast in Vancouver, B.C., she has opened for artists such as The Funk Hunters, 2018 Eurovision winner Netta, Whitney Day, and TT The Artist. With a strong love for tropical and deep house, Krista draws inspiration from large-scale festival performances to keep any crowd moving. Catch her at local queer events throughout the Vancouver area, including at Downtown, her semi-annual party for women-identified and non-binary folks held at prominent nightclubs throughout the city.
