Babysitter Training (CW17-08)
Wed, 4 January 2017, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST
Babysitting, 12 + years (or turning 12 within the calendar year)
Based on the Canada Safety Council Babysitter Training Course. It is designed to provide current information concerning childcare for young babysitters to use while babysitting and caring for younger siblings. The training will help prevent accidents and promote responsible management of any situation that may arise when children are under their care.
The Babysitters Training Course covers such topics as:
Becoming a successful babysitter
Caring for children from three months to school-aged
The behaviour and misbehaviour of children
Caring for a sick or injured child
Prevention and Basic First Aid
Student Reference Book
This book summarizes the course sessions and provides child care information that will be of value to the graduates during their babysitting years and their adult lives. The illustrated reference book includes group exercises and note taking pages. A summary sheet is included which can be used to collect important information from the employer at the beginning of each babysitting job.
Each course graduate (passing grade of 75% on the final examination) is presented with a wall certificate and graduation wallet card. These provide validation that the holder has completed eight hours of training and successfully passed a comprehensive examination on the course material.
Qualifications of the Instructors – OSC instructors have education and experience in Early Childhood Education or Children and Youth, current First Aid and CPR and current police records check with the vulnerable sector.
Recommended Age to Babysit – The babysitting program is geared towards children turning 12 years of age within the calendar year. The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa recommends “only children 12 and over be allowed to care for other children”.
