Shoresh and Birthright are excited to launching the Back To Our Roots Workshop Series. In partnership with some of Toronto’s most important and innovative organizations, our workshops will get you outside, building community, giving back, connecting with our green city and networking with some of the most important Jewish organizations in town including JF&CS, Bernard Betel, Chasdei Kaduri, Ontario Jewish Archives Fentster, Beth David, Makom and The House.

Mindfulness Nature Walk
Deepen your connection to nature by hiking through one of the beautiful parks or ravines in Toronto. Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel taught the importance of interacting with the world from a place of radical amazement. Shoresh's Urban Nature Adventure will inspire you to question, explore, and discover the natural world from a Jewish perspective.

Date: Thursday June 28th
Time: 7:00-8:30pm
Location: Earl Bales Park, 4169 Bathurst St. Please meet in the parking lot next to the Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard. To get to the parking lot turn onto Raoul Wallenberg Rd off Bathurst, just south of Sheppard. At your first "V" make a right.


Fun with Fermentation: Learn How to Pickle
No sandwich is complete without a kosher dill pickle! Learn how to make your own pickled products such as sauerkraut, kimchi, and pickled beans alongside our elders at the Bernard Betel Seniors home. Hear their stories and be part of intergenerational learning.

Tzekdakah from the Ground Up
Did you know that 15% of Jewish families in the GTA are living below the poverty line? Join us at your local community garden to learn more about poverty and hunger in the community while contributing to change by helping to tend to the organic crops we’re growing for Chasdei Kaduri, the Jewish Food Bank.

What's in my chicken soup?
Join us in a beautiful backyard in mid-town Toronto to explore the backyard chicken coop of the leading advocate for rising your own chickens at home in Toronto! We will be discussing animal ethics, implications of kosher law AND will be making our very own chicken soup, otherwise known as the “Jewish Penicillin.”

From Past to Present: A Jewish Food Tour Through Kensington Market
Travel back in time and experience Kensington Market when it was a thriving Jewish village with kosher bakeries, butchers, shuls, and Yiddish language spoken. Learn the history of this once Jewish market while discovering the Jewish cultural renewal happening in the area through Shoresh, the Ontario Jewish Archives Fentster and Makom. This unique tour includes a visit to Shoresh's 2 commuity gardens in the the market.

Environment themed Shabbat Dinner
Join Shoresh and The House for a spirited Shabbat dinner this fall! We’re looking for someone to host a sustainable shabbat dinner for 10 friends between Sept 14-Dec 14th. If you have a space that can accommodate please email jared@shoresh.ca.
