Backyard Seed Saving
Join this workshop to learn the fundamentals of seed saving in your backyard! You will learn:
- Why saving seeds in your backyard vegetable garden is important
- The fundamentals of seed breeding, selection, and simple genetics
- The difference between self pollinated and open pollinated varieties
- How to harvest, clean, dry, and store seeds of common varieties (ex peas, beans, tomatoes, and lettuce)
- Tips for planning your vegetable garden for seed saving
This FREE Seed Saving Workshop is being held in partnership with the fifth annual Seedy Saturday. Seedy Saturday begins at 11:00am in the Inman Room at the North Shore Neighbourhood House.
David Catzel has almost 20 years growing experience using organic and ecological principals. He has had the opportunity to experiment with seed growing/breeding, low till annual production, intercropping and companion planting while working with Glorious Organics Co-op in Aldergrove, BC. He has taught workshops in gardening, composting, permaculture, and seed saving to adults and children.
Participant Instructions: Our annual Seedy Saturday event will begin when this workshop finishes, so come prepared to share or swap seeds.
