Event description

Description

A workshop and gathering series for migrant care workers from the GTHA with the Kwentong Bayan Collective, at the Workers Arts & Heritage Centre.

Presented in conjunction with our winter exhibition BALIKBAYAN by the Kwentong Bayan Collective, this series of gatherings will bring together workers from Hamilton and Toronto for a healing soup circle, to create storytelling wearables, and plant native seeds. At each gathering, folks can create their own pasalubong (gifts) to take home and share with others.

This series will provide space for care workers in the region to socialize and engage in creative arts that draw out stories of work, care and migration.

Refreshments will be provided for each gathering. Public transportation from Toronto will be guided by a host from a TTC Station.

*****

Sunday, April 15th, 1-4 pm Planting Native Seeds

with the Kwentong Bayan Collective

We will make plantable paper embedded with native wildflower seeds, text and drawings. Participants are invited to write messages to the land and plant in WAHC's community garden.

We will learn about native seeds, our relationship with plants not from this land, how to make intentional offerings, and about the work of Land and Water Protectors.

For more information on how to register, contact Tara Bursey, Program Coordinator at (905) 522-3003 ex. 29 or tara@wahc-museum.ca.

The BALIKBAYAN Caregiver Gathering Series is made possible through the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
