About this event
Prior to registration, participants will be required to read, understand and follow SPRA’s COVID-19 Mitigation Measures and other COVID-19 protocols that may be in place during this training program.
This is an introductory course that provides professional grade instruction on proper sports field maintenance. Playing on sportfields that are too wet is a major reason for injury to players and to facilities. This course talks about this major problem and other areas including pitcher’s mound, home plate and bullpen areas, base paths and infield maintenance. This is a practical course combined with classroom instruction. Various pieces of equipment will be described and methods will be demonstrated on field where possible. Turf Management has been added to examine best practices for the care of sports turf.

- Infield Groom Techniques
- Clay Repairs
- Grass Edge Maintenance and Field Lining
- Grass Maintenance (Soccer, Football, Lacrosse)
- Grass Maintenance – Turf Management Plan
- Portable Goals and Safety
Primary Audience: Facility operators, maintenance staff and supervisors responsible for the day-to-day operations of ball diamonds, and other sport fields.
Prerequisites: None. Some experience with the operation and upkeep of sportfields would be an asset.
Mode of Training: The course is a combination of classroom instruction and practical application.
Course Materials: Registrants will receive a course binder of the topics and other relevant handouts.
Health & Safety: Steal toe shoe/boots are required along with other PPE to be outside working.
