Notes:

There is a $75.00 entry fee, payable through Eventbrite. The entry fee includes taxes and handling costs and includes a full paid access for the competitor to the grounds of the Glengarry Highland Games on Friday and Friday evening, August 2nd for the Tattoo and Awards Presentations. The entry fee must accompany all entries. The entry fee will be returned to competitors who are not selected to compete.

Please list your tunes in the form (refer to Required Tunes on page 3), and sign where indicated.

1st - $3,000.00 + The Bar to the Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) and the Sir John A Macdonald Targe presented by the Clan Donald Land Trust
2nd - $1,000.00

Closing Date for Entries: All entries and tune selections must be received by the organizers no later than June 19, 2019.

Tunes/Order of Play: Competitors who are selected to play will be advised of tunes and order of play no later than July 15, 2019.

Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) Contests Rules, Regulations and Notes

Competitors must be classified as Open or Professional players by a recognized piping society. Amateur players are ineligible to compete in the Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) contests.

Eligibility for the Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) contest: Open to any competitor who has been classified as an Open or Professional player and has never been awarded the Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) in previous contests at Ottawa, Cambridge or Maxville, or the Highland Society of London Gold Medal at Inverness or Oban.

Eligibility for the Bar to the Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) contest: Confined to competitors who have previously been awarded the Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) at Ottawa, Cambridge or Maxville, or the Highland Society of London Gold Medal at Inverness or Oban.

A properly completed entry form with the entry fee must be submitted through Eventbrite no later than June 14, 2019. Late entries will not be accepted.

A total of thirty (30) places have been allocated for the 2019 Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) contests.

If there are more than a total of thirty (30) entries, the selection of competitors for the Open Piobaireachd for the Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) contests will be at the selection committee’s discretion.

Competitors who are selected to play will be advised of tunes and order of play no later than July 15, 2019.

Those who are selected for the competitions are assumed to be competing. If a competitor wishes to withdraw, it is essential that the organizers be contacted promptly.

The Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) CANNOT be won! The winner of the Piobaireachd contest will be declared and, in order that no one may gain the medal by default, the contest’s judge will decide if the performance merits the awarding of the medal.

Subject to time availability, the winner of the 2019 Gold Medal contest MAY be invited to play up in the Bar to the Gold Medal contest. If so, they must submit an eligible tune from the list..

In the event that only three players enter the Bar to the Gold Medal contest, 1st and 2nd place prizes only will be awarded.

The Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) tune lists are from the Piobaireachd Society Set Tunes 2019 and are intended to be identical. Competitors may refer to the Piobaireachd Society website to ensure that their selections are accurate: https://www.piobaireachd.co.uk/archives/9498.

Competitors are not restricted to settings in the Piobaireachd Society Collection and Kilberry Book. Those who wish to play alternative settings should submit legible scores, indicating the origins of the settings, to competition organizers along with their tune selections. Altogether different tunes known by the same or similar names will not be accepted as alternatives.
