Description

The registration cost for the Basic Electronics Training Day includes a Junior Genius Kits – Blinky Lights kit, additional parts, and instruction books that are yours to keep. There is no cost for mentors/teachers/parents that do not want their own kit and are attending to help their students.

The training day is broken up into four parts with a 90-minute lunch break. Lunch is not provided but there are many eating establishments within close proximity to SAIT and you are welcome to bring a bagged lunch and eat on-site.

TRAINGING DAY OVERVIEW

Part 1 – Blinky Lights & Transistor Basics
The first session focuses on basic electricity, wiring, and troubleshooting skills. Topics covered include:

• introduction to basic parts: LEDS, resistors, capacitors, and transistors
• series & parallel circuits, wiring and connections
• how a breadboard works to prototype circuits
• basic circuits to light up LEDs
• voltage and current
• reading assembly diagrams and schematics
• transistors and electronic switching
• make the 2 transistor blinky light circuit
This really isn’t a topic

Part 2 – Switches and Relays
We will introduce switches, relays, diodes, and using transistors to activate relays.

Part 3 – DC Motors
We will use relays to control a DC motor to allow forward and reverse movement. Topics covered include:

• DC motor construction and operation
• a simple off-forward-reverse H-bridge motor drive using relays
• transistor H-bridge motor drives and PWM

Part 4 – Digital Electronics
We will learn how to use integrated circuits (I.C.’s) and digital logic to create a burglar alarm and provide more advanced motor control operation.

digital vs. analog electronics, digital logic
• introduction to integrated circuit (I.C.'s) and gates
• build an oscillator using an inverter I.C.
• use digital logic to control a burglar alarm

Please note: we are recording this event to use as a future webinar for off-site students.
