Community Consultations: Basic Income in Halton
“The solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed measure: the guaranteed income.” - Martin Luther King Jr.
Hugh Segal’s discussion paper on basic income, intended to advise the Ontario government on the design for their 2017 basic income pilot, was released in early November. While there is no single definition of basic income, it is generally understood to be a payment to individuals and families to make sure that everyone benefits from a minimum level of income.
The provincial government wants to hear from you about what you think of basic income and how you feel it could work best in Ontario. Come out and participate in one of two community consultations about Basic Income in Halton this December. Have your voice heard and included in a summary which we will submit to the Provincial Government at the end of January.
